Risks Related to Wrestling

The staff at Honeycutt Wrestling recognize our obligation to make sure our students and their parents/guardians are aware of the risks and hazards involved in the sport of wrestling. By signing the Risks Related to Wrestling Form, you release Honeycutt Wrestling and all of its employees from all claims on account of any injury which may be sustained by your child while attending any wrestling training, practice and/or event associated with Honeycutt Wrestling. You also affirm that you now have and will continue to carry proper primary medical insurance, health & hospitalization insurance and accident insurance which you consider adequate for the protection of your child.

Attendance Policy

Consistent attendance is essential for maximum progress for each wrestler. Please be considerate of your instructors and fellow wrestlers by arriving on time for each and every training class, practice and/or event. Wrestlers who miss frequently may be removed from the club. If attendance becomes an issue, please speak to the instructor to find an alternative training plan.

If a mandatory team practice is missed, that wrestler may be subject to removal from that team. If more than 2 routine scheduled practices are missed, that wrestler may be subject to removal from that team. Please discuss any conflicts you may have with team practices with your coach as soon as possible.

Club Policies

Student Drop-Off

Parents please do not drop your wrestler off prior to 20 minutes before their first practice/training start time.  Often we do not arrive until then and we cannot be responsible for children unattended outside.  Example:  If your wrestler’s practice starts at 6:15, please do not drop them off until 5:55.

Parking

Because there is no parking around the curbs of the buildings, we ask that the students not be dropped off at the curb. Please park your car in the parking lot and walk your child to the door. For the safety of our students, we ask that you pick up your child at the front doors and walk him/her to your car. If parking in the lower lot is full, please park in the upper lot and walk your wrestler into the building.

Communication

Please routinely check with the office staff for informational handouts. Most information will be sent via email. Please make sure to update your email annually and notify the office staff of any changes. Please drop by the front desk if you have any questions/concerns or you may email us at info@honeycuttwrestling.com.

Parents wishing to discuss their child’s progress with an instructor should send an email to info@honeycuttwrestling.com. It is very difficult for the instructors to maintain their tight class schedules if they are answering parents’ questions in between classes. We appreciate your understanding on this matter.

Inclement Weather/Holiday Closings

We reserve the right to open or close based on changing weather conditions throughout the year.  You will be notified of each holiday closing.

Lobby/Office/Waiting Areas

Our waiting areas are available for parents to sit while their child is in training. They are also for students to take breaks, eat and work on homework. We ask that parents allow room for our students when they need to be in the lobby/waiting areas during class breaks. Please avoid standing in the hallway or bringing strollers in the building. Wrestlers need to be able to move from class to class, or exit the building safely. If you have siblings or other children with you, please keep them at your side, as our facility is not set up to accommodate unsupervised children.

Only Honeycutt Wrestling staff is allowed behind office counter, stock rooms and other restricted areas. Please pick up after yourself in the restrooms. Please notify the staff of any problems in any lobby/waiting area/restrooms.

Visitors

Visitors are not allowed in class rooms as it can be distracting to students.  Please feel free to use observation windows where available.  Instructors may close practices at their discretion.

Food & Drinks

NO food and/or drinks are allowed on the mats at any time. All food and drink must be consumed in lobby/waiting areas only. Only plastic capped water bottles will be allowed in the gym. Glass containers are not allowed in building. There is no gum allowed in the building. Please pick up after yourself and dispose of all trash in appropriate receptacles located throughout the gym.

Breaks & Dismissal

Parents, we need you to set guidelines for your child’s use of time when you will not be with him/her at the gym. Please pick up your child when their class is dismissed, we do not have the staff to supervise students. We will not be responsible for students who leave the gym, or who are left unattended while siblings attend their classes. If a student has a break between classes, this would be a good time to eat a healthy snack or to work on homework. Please discuss with your child whether he/she is allowed to leave the gym. We will be selling bottled water, and small snacks at the front desk or you may choose to pack a lunch. When class is dismissed, please walk up to the front doors and pick up your child. Please be here promptly at dismissal time so students are not worrying.

Gym Etiquette

Younger students please do not enter a classroom without an instructor present.

Eyes and attention must always be on the instructor. Talking, yawning or leaving class before it is over is not acceptable.

Respect for your instructor and the art form you are learning by: listening when the instructor speaks, being prepared for your turn and always ask before leaving the room for any reason.

Be appreciative of corrections and apply them. Students will progress only as well as they can take corrections.

Do not talk back to your instructor regardless of the situation. It is improper to question the instructor’s authority. If you have a question/concern, you may talk to the instructor after class.

Be kind to all other wrestlers/visitors/staff/parents. A positive attitude and tone must be kept at all times in the gym and lobby/waiting areas. Displays of temper, rudeness and any form of bullying are unacceptable. Your instructor and/or any staff member reserves the right to ask you to leave if negative behavior is observed.

No cell phones in class. Turn the ringer off. If it is an emergency, please discreetly leave the room to talk on your phone.

Arrive at least 10 minutes early to prepare yourself appropriately for class. If late, wait for the exercise in progress to be over before entering the gym. Students arriving late may be asked to observe instead of participate. Class time in very limited and tardiness reduces the amount of time the wrestler has to perfect the intricacies of their wrestling technique.

If a student needs to leave early, he/she must ask the instructor’s permission before class begins.

Please leave discreetly so as not to disrupt class.

If you are going to be absent, call the office so that the instructor can be notified before class begins. If a make-up class is available for your class level, arrangements can be made then.

Training Placement

Instructors/Staff will place students in classes appropriate for their ability/age. Instructors will evaluate students regularly and will have final say on whether to move a student up or down.

Wrestlers from Competing Gyms

We love to welcome all wrestling students; however, wrestlers who compete for another gym will not be allowed to participate in the Honeycutt Wrestling technique or training programs.

Dress Code

Practice Attire:

T-shirt, shorts or sweatpants, wrestling shoes

Competition Attire:

Singlet:  One-piece, tight-fitting, colored uniform, usually made of spandex/lycra, or nylon

Wrestling Shoes:   Generally light and flexible, they try to mimic the bare foot, while providing slightly more traction and ankle support and less chance of contracting a disease or hurting the opponent with exposed toe nails.

Headgear:  Equipment designed to protect the ears of the wrestler.

Mouth Guard:  A mouth piece to prevent cuts and other injuries to the mouth (recommended)

Lace Covers:  Used to secure shoe laces to prevent them from becoming untied. Many of the newer wrestling shoes come equipped with a built-in lace cover, but these can also be purchased separately (optional)

Instructors have recommended items for training, but students may need to purchase additional items for competitions. Shoes need to be student’s correct size for proper fit, not a larger size to allow for growth. All students should be in proper wrestling apparel.

Responsibilities for My Property

The gym will not be responsible for lost items. Students should carry belongings in a bag and store it in the gym lockers. Please label shoes and other personal items and do not bring valuables to the gym.

Students will be responsible for all competition apparel. These need to be stored away from all damaging agents (bleach, markers, pets, et etc). Please label all competition apparel. Lost/damaged items may not be able to be replaced. If replaceable, the costs associated with replacement will be the responsibility of the parent/guardian.
